-A Life Set Apart By God-
๐ฑor many centuries, millennia even, the role of consecrated virgin was one unofficially recognized within the Catholic Church. It wasn't until 1970 A.D. when His Holiness Pope Saint Paul VI published "Ordo Consecrationis Virginum" that this role was cemented.ย
But what is this role? What is a consecrated virgin.ย
In short, a consecrated virgin is a female member of the church never having engage in the Marital Act that is set aside and solely and completely belongs to Christ. She is in a certain sense betrothed to Our Lord.ย
Consecrated virgins possess a rather unique call to a secular state of life which means that they have jobs and lives much like that of the average person. They provide for their own needs and the local diocese is not financially responsible for them. Yet a consecrated virgin offers herself up in perpetual service to Holy Mother Church through her life itself.
-A Life Only For God-
The sisterhood invites women of all ages to a life unlike that of any other calling from Christ.ย
The role of religious sisters has been around as early as the 3rd century A.D. and since then has spread all across the world.
A nun is a woman that takes threefold vows; those being poverty, chastity, and obedience and from then joins an often cloistered community. She lives within her monastery and rarely (if ever) chooses to leave its grounds.ย
Nuns live lives of constant prayer and service, helping to prepare for Holy Mass, sewing vestments, carving statues, and praying the Divine Office throughout the day. Her life is lived for God and her sisterhood, in service to both.
